FedEx launches solar photovoltaic power generation in Beijing

Recently, FedEx announced the official launch of photovoltaic power generation at its ground operation station in Shunyi, Beijing. This project provides clean electricity for FedEx sorting operation facilities through a rooftop solar photovoltaic power generation system and supports renewable energy generation in the park.

The FedEx ground operation station located in Linji Industrial Park, Shunyi District, Beijing has a rooftop installed solar photovoltaic power generation system with an area of 2000 square meters, and is expected to generate 360000 kWh of electricity annually. Compared with traditional coal-fired power plants, the project will save over 110 tons of standard coal usage per year, reduce over 350 tons of carbon dioxide emissions, and reduce the emissions of major atmospheric pollutants such as dust and sulfur dioxide. The green electricity generated by this photovoltaic power generation project can meet the daily operational electricity needs of FedEx operating facilities, such as office and warehouse lighting, and the operation of cargo sorting systems. At the same time, some of the electricity generated will enter the national grid.

As another innovative application of FedEx in promoting sustainable logistics development in China, this project was recently awarded the “2022 E-commerce Logistics Innovation Case” at the 13th China E-commerce Logistics Conference hosted by the China Federation of Logistics and Procurement.

At present, FedEx is actively deploying more photovoltaic clean energy projects in China, accelerating the construction of sustainable operating facilities in China, and further promoting energy conservation, emission reduction, and low-carbon operations. And globally, FedEx is also vigorously promoting photovoltaic application projects to popularize green power applications.

It is reported that FedEx has over 20 photovoltaic power generation facilities worldwide, which can provide over 24 million kilowatt hours of clean energy and reduce approximately 14000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. In November 2022, FedEx opened a new Incheon International Port Operations Center at Incheon International Airport in South Korea, adopting multiple sustainable design concepts. It generates renewable energy through 2400 solar panels installed on its roof, providing approximately 19% of the facility’s monthly energy demand.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of FedEx Group. Since its launch in 1973, FedEx has always connected the world with a responsible attitude and diverse methods. FedEx aims to achieve carbon neutrality operation of global business by 2040, and is committed to creating a more sustainable future. While supporting renewable energy generation, FedEx also promotes vehicle electrification, the use of alternative fuels, and the improvement of infrastructure energy efficiency to achieve this goal.
